Formula One renews Barcelona circuit deal until 2026

The race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will take place on May 22, 2022.

Formula One has announced its contract renewal with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and will have the Spanish Grand Prix until 2026.

The contract will also include some developments and upgrades to the track and facilities in order to make it in line with today’s modern venues. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has the longest continuous runs amongst any current Grand Prix venue. The venue has been on the calendar since 1991.

There were speculations about the future of the venue as there was some close participation of the local authorities, and the need for the race to have economic sense.

F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “We are delighted to announce this deal with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. I want to thank the promoter and the authorities for their enthusiasm and commitment to keeping Formula 1 in Barcelona, with improvements that will be made to the track and facilities, and continuing our long history together.”

“The teams and drivers always look forward to racing at the circuit and visiting Barcelona, and the Spanish fans will continue to see their national heroes, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz up close.”

The race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will take place on May 22, 2022. For the current season, two races are scheduled to take place, on December 5 the race will be in Saudi Arabia and then will fly to Abu Dhabi for the final race of the year on December 12.
