Prime Video enhances sports offerings via FanCode partnership

As per the deal, via an add-on subscription, Prime members in the nation will be able to view FanCode content using their Prime Video memberships.

The streaming service giant, Amazon Prime Video has announced a new sports channel service in India via an arrangement with the Indian sports streaming platform, FanCode.

As per the deal, via an add-on subscription, Prime members in the nation will be able to view FanCode content using their Prime Video memberships. It is the most significant step Prime Video has taken in the country to include sports to compete with another sports provider, JioCinema, the streaming platform of the Indian media broadcasting baron, Viacom18.

Cricket is the most popular sport in India, and although Prime Video does not have cricket rights in the country, FanCode broadcasts International Cricket Council (ICC) pathway events, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and Cricket West Indies matches, notably the upcoming England tour in December.

FanCode also has rights to a slew of football, volleyball, hockey, and basketball tournaments.

This arrangement may demonstrate Prime Video’s intention to enter the Indian sports industry, although it falls far short of the number of rights owned by Viacom18.
