Liga Portugal strikes sponsorship and licensing agreement with Puma

From the 2023-24 season, the German sports brand will be the official match ball supplier of Liga Portugal as well as the official technical sponsor.

The Primeira Liga also known as Liga Portugal has inked a sponsorship and licensing agreement with the sportswear company, Puma.

From the 2023-24 season, the German sports brand will be the official match ball supplier of Liga Portugal as well as the official technical sponsor, establishing Puma as the brand of the official match ball of all professional events.

But the deal goes much further than that; the two organisations also concur to work together on marketing, events, and brand activation efforts, always with an eye towards adding value for the fan.

Following the sponsorship of LaLiga and Serie A, Puma is stepping up its strategy of wagering on the top European leagues, helping the company’s brand gain ground in the worldwide football scene. The deal, which was already negotiated in 2022, was made official at a ceremony conducted at Liga Portugal, where Pedro Proença, the president of Liga Portugal, and Javier Ortega, the general director of Puma for Southern Europe, were present.

Javier Ortega, Puma’s General Manager for Southern Europe, said, “We are very excited to start working with Liga Portugal. After LaLiga and Serie A, we are excited to see the new Puma Orbita ball on Portuguese pitches, hopefully contributing to spectacular moments and top-level performances.”

Pedro Proença, President of Liga Portugal, said, “It is an honour and a privilege for Liga Portugal to be associated with such a world-class and prestigious brand as Puma. This moment is the result of a long negotiation process that began with PUMA’s interest in Liga Portugal and Portuguese professional football, manifested more than a year ago, being a good example of the growth and development of our competitions and events, as it also demonstrates the path of excellence that our professional competitions have tread in recent years.

“This partnership reinforces Liga Portugal as one of the top leagues in Europe and will make the new Official Match Ball an iconic hallmark for the 2023-24 season. It is also an enormous pride to be alongside LaLiga and Serie A, two leagues with which we have a fruitful relationship and with whom we will have the pleasure of working with on major events in the near future.”
