In the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
SRH won the toss and asked GT to bat first. It was a match to remember for Shubman Gill (101) as he struck an unbelievable century in just 58 deliveries. The right handed batter smashed 13 fours and just one six in his inning which ensured that GT atleast reach a massive score. Along with Gill, Sai Sudharsan (47) also played a handy knock. Both the batters added 147 runs together for the second wicket partnership. None of the other batters could contribute any decent runs thus GT only posted 188 runs in 20 overs.
In the chase, Heinrich Klassen (64) was the only batter who showed some intent. The South African batter struck four fours and three sixes but was unable to rescue the Sunrisers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (27*) and Mayank Markande (18*) were the other batters who made some generous runs in the end to take SRH to a respectable score.
While defending, four wickets each each were grabbed by Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma. Furthermore, impact player Yash Dayal also got one wicket.
With the ball in the first innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped a fifer in his quota of four overs. One wicket each was also picked up by Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqi and T Natarajan.
Shubman Gill was adjudged Player of the Match for his electrifying batting performance. Following this win, GT have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
