IPL 2021: Punjab Kings’ Chris Gayle wants to play few more years

Chris Gayle might be one of the oldest cricketers featuring in IPL 2021 but the batsman still has “plenty in the tank” to cause nightmares to opposition bowlers. The Jamaican feels if he can adjust to the environment, he’ll be at par with the young guns.

“I still have plenty in the tank left in me, looking forward to plenty more cricket. You feel you’re still a youngster if you can get on with these conditions.”

Gayle is the first batsman in the history of IPL to smash 350 sixes in the IPL. He achieved the feat during his 40-run knock against Rajasthan Royals in their first match of the season where PBKS beat RR by a narrow margin of four runs.

The 41-year-old has represented various franchises in the IPL and has many records to his name but he is currently struggling for consistency. He has not hit the heights he once did and has been struggling for the past few seasons and his stats speak for themselves. Chris Gayle has scored only 288 runs in the last edition of IPL held in Dubai. He has failed to cross the 500 run mark for the past seven seasons. Punjab Kings count on him to perform well but Gayle seems to be a shadow of his past self. His prime days are long gone and these might be his last shot at winning the trophy.

Punjab Kings is in desperate need of a victory as pressure is mounting on KL Rahul’s led side. They have lost two games in a row are currently in the seventh position. The game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday has not gone well as they were bundled out for 120 in the first innings. Most of the batsmen including Gayle found it difficult to get going on the tricky pitch in Chennai.
