IPL 2020: Takeaways from KXIP’s thrilling win against MI

There were many important takeaways from Kings XI Punjab’s win in the second super over against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

It was an eventful Sunday in IPL 2020 as there were three super overs across two games. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Mumbai Indians (MI) were involved in the first-ever double super over of IPL on October 18. KXIP eventually came out victorious from this game to keep their hopes alive in IPL 2020.

MI managed to post a decent total of 176, courtesy of some strong hitting from Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile in the last three overs. KXIP couldn’t find a way to get over the line during the chase. In the first super over, KXIP managed to defend a low total and eventually chase down 11 runs in the second super over. Here are important takeaways from an intriguing encounter at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

India was the biggest winner from the game

KXIP managed to win the game by the finest margins, but the biggest winner from this game was the Indian Cricket team. Jasprit Bumrah showed once again why he is the best bowler in T-20s by getting important breakthroughs in the second innings. He also managed to concede only five runs in the super over.

In the first super over, Mohammed Shami displayed accuracy in his bowling by delivering six yorkers in an over. The form of India’s two premier pace bowlers bodes well ahead of next year’s T-20 World Cup. KL Rahul’s good form as the opener and Mayank Agarwal’s good hitting is also a promising sign for the Indian team.

Quinton de Kock thrives in a different role

Quinton de Kock has regained form in the past few games for MI. The South African wicketkeeper-batsman has been scoring freely at the top order. His quick scoring gives MI a solid platform to post or chase a big total.

However, Sunday was different for QdK. After losing three wickets in the powerplay, he had to control his instincts and rebuild the innings. He showed great composure to keep the play ticking in the middle and provide a solid base for lower-order batsmen to explode in the final five overs. QdK’s performance in a different role once again shows that the batting unit of MI is flexible and adapts as per the game situation.

KL Rahul is Mr. Consistent in IPL 2020

KL Rahul surpassed 500 runs mark on Sunday. The KXIP captain notched up another half-century on Sunday. He managed to anchor the chase perfectly by scoring 77 runs and only a special delivery from Bumrah was able to dismiss him.

KXIP is languishing at the bottom of the points table, but KL Rahul has been consistently scoring runs for the team. He is on track to win the orange cap this season. The Indian batsman has taken more responsibility for KXIP by not throwing away his wickets at the start of the innings. He manages to catch up with the strike rate later in the innings. With five half-centuries and one century in nine games, KL Rahul has become Mr. Consistent in this edition of IPL.
