In the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will take on Australia on Thursday, March 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad at 9:30 AM IST. The hosts currently lead the series 2-1.
The formidable Indian team suffered its first defeat in the series in the third Test as the batters failed miserably on the rank turner. Apart from Cheteshwar Pujara, most of the batters failed to score runs due to which the Indians couldn’t manage to put up a robust total on the scoreboard. The bowlers weren’t left with much to defend in the fourth innings and suffered a nine-wicket defeat. With the pitch not being a rank turner in the following Test, according to the reports, the final match could see the fourth or fifth day. The pacers could also play a vital part in the Test match alongside the World Test Championship (WTC) Final berth on the line. Apart from just winning the upcoming game, Rohit Sharma and Co. will also aim to conclude the Test match on a winning note to gain the much-needed momentum ahead of the WTC Final in June.
On the other end, the Aussies didn’t just bag a Test match in tough Indian conditions but also officially became the first team to qualify for the WTC Final. The absence of Australia’s regular captain, Pat Cummins, wasn’t felt as the stand-in skipper, Steve Smith, did a stupendous job in leading the side and acquiring a victory in the historic BGT. Smith will helm the Aussies in the fourth Test too and will look to register a historic comeback by drawing the series with being 2-0 down after the first two matches.
Australia lead the head-to-head competition between the two teams in the longest format as they won 44 games and lost 32 fixtures out of 105 games.
On the other end, India claim the BG Trophy head-to-head with 24 victories and 20 defeats.
