Football Australia extends sponsorship agreement with CUPRA

CUPRA first partnered with Football Australia in 2022, aligning with the automaker's launch into the Australian market with its line of performance petrol, PHEV, and BEVs.

The governing body of soccer in Australia, Football Australia has announced an extended sponsorship agreement with the electrifying automotive brand, CUPRA.

The carmaker initially collaborated with Football Australia in 2022, aligning with the automaker’s launch into the Australian market with its line of performance petrol, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This features the CUPRA Formentor, which is the official vehicle of the Subway Socceroos and the CommBank Matildas.

The extension of this collaboration represents a key landmark for Australia’s governing body of football, illustrating the collaborative efforts of iconic, values-based companies like CUPRA.

Football Australia CEO, James Johnson, said, “It’s fantastic to have CUPRA extend their partnership with Football Australia, allowing both parties to build upon the great work that has been achieved both on and off the field over recent years to drive forward Australian football. CUPRA as a brand and their workforce have an unwavering passion for football, and it’s their global approach to business which mirrors so perfectly how our national teams engage with world football. We are excited to see CUPRA remain part of the Football Australia Family and look forward to seeing what we can continue to accomplish as we move forward on this journey together.”

CUPRA Australia Director, Ben Wilks, said, “Our renewal caps off two years of strong engagement and outstanding results for not only CUPRA, but for football in Australia as a whole. Like an expert strike from Mary Fowler, our partnership has really struck home for our growing CUPRA Tribe in Australia. We’re delighted to see how that partnership continues to grow as we roll out a range of new initiatives and activations in this pivotal year for Australian football.”

Established in Barcelona, the CUPRA brand has also a long history of generating passion among football fans worldwide as FC Barcelona‘s official partner. The CUPRA Tribe boasts an exceptional roster of international ambassadors, including two Australians, Mary Fowler and Andrew Redmayne.

With a number of football-themed events held in their CUPRA Garages, it has successfully united the two brands thus far in their partnership. The brand is also working with the association on a number of inclusivity and diversity projects as a further indication of the two organisations’ agreement.

This will be emphasised as part of Football Australia’s Mardi Gras 2024 float. CUPRA has provided a Mardi Gras CUPRA Born PROUD vehicle, which will be displayed in the parade on Saturday, March 2, alongside the Football Australia team.

Football Australia Head of Commercial and Events, Tom Rischbieth, commented, “The team at CUPRA have been a wonderful addition to the football family in recent years. Their progressive brand, incredible content and storytelling, plus authentic passion for football, locally and globally, has created a huge impact. We look forward to continuing this journey together as we look ahead to critical games for our beloved CommBank Matildas, Subway Socceroos and many of our Youth National Teams in 2024. “Football Australia continues to work with the best brands in the business, and we’re pleased to have the renewed commitment from CUPRA in Australia.”
