World Surf League extends contract with Corona

Corona will be the WSL Championship Tour's (CT) official beer partner.

The World Surf League (WSL) has announced that it has extended its collaboration with AB InBev beer brand, Corona. This new extended deal has been signed for three years.

Apart from Australia and the United States, Corona will be the WSL Championship Tour’s (CT) official beer partner.

Corona already has title sponsorship deals with the Corona Open J-Bay in South Africa and the Saquarema Pro in Brazil, as well as presenting partner agreements with the Surf City El Salvador Pro and the Oi Rio Pro in Rio de Janeiro.

The Surf City El Salvador Pro for this year started on June 12. WSL’s media rights associates, the WorldSurfLeague.com website, the WSL’s YouTube channel, and the free WSL app provide global coverage.

Cherie Cohen, WSL Chief Revenue Officer, said, “The global Corona brand has been part of the WSL family since 2016 and we continue to strengthen that relationship. Corona shares our passion for the beach, and the strength of their presence globally, and particularly in Latin America, makes this such a powerful partnership. We are both deeply vested in protecting our ocean and our work this season reflects that with much more to come.”

Global Vice President of Corona Felipe Ambra, said, “Corona is a brand that was born on the beach, so it’s only natural that we’ve been a favourite brand of surfers and a part of surf lifestyle for decades. We are so excited to work with WSL to bring the Championship Tour to El Salvador, and we really believe in the incredible growth opportunities for the sport in Latin America.”

Corona’s collaboration with WSL contains numerous activations centred on the league’s ocean conservation efforts, including the non-profit WSL Pure. Corona is a proud supporter of the WSL PURE We Are One Ocean initiatives. Corona supported the work of local NGO Sungai Watch on a venture to intercept plastic entering the ocean from rivers at the latest Quiksilver and Roxy Pro G-Land event in Indonesia.

Corona has been engaged in plastic waste reduction activities since 2017, collaborating with agencies such as Parley for the Oceans.

Corona Studios and WSL collaborated on a video series called Corona Lay Days, which focuses on what surfers do when they are not competing. A second season will follow Brazilian surfer Filipe Toledo during the 2022 CT.

WSL Studios, a content production house, was founded in 2019. The division creates unscripted television content, such as documentaries and series, centred on WSL athletes, events, and locations.
