Rajasthan Royals sign Evin Lewis, Oshane Thomas as replacement

Lewis will be joining the squad as a top-order batsman while Oshane will be joining as a fast bowler.

Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals has announced Trinidadian cricketer Evin Lewis and Jamaican cricketer Oshane Thomas as their replacement players. Both players are signed after English cricketers Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler decided to skip the upcoming phase 2 of IPL 2021. 

Ben Stokes opted to take a break from all formats of cricket a few months ago while Jos Buttler will be missing the second phase due to the expected birth of his second child. 

Both Stokes and Buttler were crucial players for the Royals. Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas will have big responsibilities on their shoulders to fill the shoes of the two English players. 

Lewis will be joining the squad as a top-order batsman while Oshane will be joining as a fast bowler.

The left-handed batsman, Lewis has a record of 1318 runs in 45 T20I matches with a strike rate of 158, the southpaw will be looking to bolster the batting of the one-time champion. 

Thomas, on the other hand, has a record of 19 wickets in 17 T20I matches and will be looking to enhance the bowling lineup of Rajasthan Royals. 

The Rajasthan based team currently has acquired the fifth spot in the IPL standings with six points in seven games and will be looking forward to making a place for themselves in the knockout stages.

The first fixture of the second phase of IPL will be played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings on September 19. Rajasthan Royals’ first opponent in phase 2 will be Punjab Kings, the game will be played on September 21.
