Pocari Sweat to sponsor AFF Championship for two years

The contest will be advertised as the Mitsubishi Electric Cup.

The Otsuka Pharmaceutical-owned sports drinks brand, Pocari Sweat has announced that it will sponsor the AFF Championship for two years.

This collaboration has been confirmed following the completion of a deal with the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).

Pocari Sweat will be an official sponsor of the competition this year, which begins in December and the 2024 edition of the biennial event. After replacing the car company, Suzuki as the event’s title sponsor, the contest will be advertised as the Mitsubishi Electric Cup.

SPORTFIVE, the AFF’s exclusive commercial rights agent, enabled the arrangement between Pocari Sweat and the AFF.

SPORTFIVE Southeast Asia Managing Director, Malcolm Thorpe, said, “As we herald a new era for Asean football…we are delighted to have Pocari Sweat join our family of AFF partners. To have them commit to two editions speaks volume about the popularity of the tournament and how strongly the event is able to connect brands with fans.”

The upcoming AFF Championship will restore to its conventional home-and-away format after being held entirely in Singapore last year as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. The tournament is all set to commence on December 10 and will run until January 23.
