In the ninth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Rishabh Pant won the toss and asked RR to bat first. The innings for the home team began in a disappointing manner as both openers, Jos Buttler (11) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (5), couldn’t give a strong start. Even Sanju Samson (15) got out pretty early after struggling against the new ball. Ravichandran Ashwin (29) was promoted at number five and did well as he smacked three sixes. His knock also took pressure off Riyan Parag (84*) who smashed unbelievable half-century which included seven fours and six sixes. Dhruv Jurel (20) and Shimron Hetmyer (14*) also contributed quick fire runs towards the end to take RR to 185/5 in 20 overs.
In the chase, David Warner (49) began the innings for DC with some fireworks off the willow. Mitchell Marsh (23) also gave decent start with five quick boundaries. Rishabh Pant (28) also further took DC scorecard ahead but got out on the wrong time. Tristan Stubbs (44) had an excellent outing as he struck three fours and two sixes at a strike rate of around 190. With 17 to get off final over, the unit only managed to score four runs.
While defending, Yuzvendra Chahal and Nandre Burger took two wickets each while Avesh Khan also scalped one wicket. Notably, Khan bowled the final over wherin his yorkers totally ruined DC’s winning chances.
While bowling in the first innings, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed plucked one wicket each.
With this win, Rajasthan Royals have secured their second win of the season and are now second in the points tally.
