In the fifth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
Post winning the toss, Faf du Plessis asked MI to bat first. The Mumbai-based team started off horribly yet again as the team crumbled straightaway while batting. Karn Shaarma, Reece toplsy and co. bowled exceptionally well to restrict MI to just 171 runs.
While chasing, RCB got off to a positive start with both legendary openers Virat Kohli (82*) and Faf du Plessis (73) playing brilliantly from ball one to take the side home without any trouble. While du Plessis scored five fours and six sixes, Kohli hammered six fours and five sixes. The duo scored a massive 148 runs together the first wicket partnership which was enough to ensure victory for the home side.
For MI, only Tilak Varma (84*) looked to understand that Chinnaswamy pitch rightly. Varma smashed nine fours and four sixes which helped the Mumbai-based team to reach a respectable total. Other than him, no one really impressed much with the bat.
Karn Sharma grabbed managed to claim two wickets while one each wicket was picked by Mohammad Siraj, and Reece Toplet.
Only two wickets were picked by the Mumbai-based team while trying to defend the target. Cameron Green and Arshad Khan were the two players to take one wicket each. Aakash deep, Harshal Patel, Michael Bracewell.
The skipper of RCB was awarded the Man of the Match for his dynamic batting show. Following this win, RCB have started the IPL 2023 on a winning note.
