IPL 2023 PBKS vs KKR: Arshdeep’s top-class bowling act provides win for PBKS

Following this win, PBKS have started their IPL 2023 on a winning note on their home turf.

In the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven runs (DL method) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Punjab Kings started their innings on a high note as their opener Prabhsimran Singh (23) smashed bowlers upfront in the powerplay. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (50) followed him and played an excellent knock for a fifty which helped PBKS escalate the scoreboard in the middle overs. On the other side, captain Shikhar Dhawan (40) played a steady knock to anchor the innings. A few other contributors in the first innings were Jitesh Sharma (21), Sam Curran (26) and Sikandar Raza (16). The team had a powerful start which is why it looked like they would reach the 200-run mark easily. Nevertheless, the Punjab-based side did their best to post 191 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets.

For KKR while chasing, only impact player Venkatesh Iyer (34) looked handsome with his bat as he tried his best to bat till the end. Along with him, Andre Russell (35) also hammered a few out of the park but couldn’t take his inning deep. Later on, towards the end of the inning, the rain stopped play and hence, PBKS were through with two points courtesy DL method.

Arshdeep Singh bowled exceptionally well to dismiss three KKR batters while defending the target. Other than him, one wicket each was also picked by Rahul Chahar, Sikandar Raza, Nathan Ellis and Sam Curran.

While Tim Southee leaked away too many runs while bowling in the first innings, he also grabbed two important wickets. One wicket each was also bagged by Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine and Umesh Yadav.

Arshdeep Singh was named Man of the Match for his electrifying bowling show. Following this win, PBKS have started their IPL 2023 on a winning note on their home turf.
