ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 India vs Netherlands: Men in Blue sideline NED by huge 160 runs; remain unbeaten in league stage

Following this win, India have won all their league games and will now play New Zealand in the semifinals.

In the 45th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, India defeated the Netherlands by 160 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

India won the toss and opted to field first. The innings began in a thunderous fashion as both openers, Rohit Sharma (61) and Shubman Gill (51), scored quickfire half-centuries in which the skipper hit eight fours and two sixes and Gill scored three fours and four sixes. Along with them, Virat Kohli (51) also joined the party and hit a decent fifty. It was Shreyas Iyer‘s (128*) show that actually took India to a gigantic total of 410/4 in 50 overs. The right-handed batter hammered 10 fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 136. Towards the end, KL Rahul (102) also hit a remarkable century. The wicketkeeper batter hit bowlers all around the park which was one of the most significant performances to witness. Both batters added a massive 208 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. It was a one-of-a-kind show that checked all the boxes before entering the knockout phase.

In the chase, the Netherlands managed to reach 250 runs courtesy of some decent batting shows by Max ODowd (30), Colin Ackermann (35), Sybrand Engelbrecht (45) and Teja Nidamanuru (54).

In the first innings with the ball, only four wickets were taken by the visitors. While Bas de Leeds picked up two wickets, one wicket each was taken by Paul van Meekeren and Roelof van der Merve.

While defending, almost nine Indian players bowled at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and claimed all NED wickets in 47 overs. While two wickets were plucked by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, the likes of Kohli and Hitman also managed to grab one wicket each.

Shreyas Iyer was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding batting show. Following this win, India have won all their league games and will now play New Zealand in the semifinals.
