Disney+ Hotstar records 2.6 crore concurrent viewers during AFG vs AUS game; the highest for a non-India fixture

The viewership peaked when Glenn Maxwell was smashing the Afghan bowlers in all corners of the ground to score an undefeated 201.

The official digital streaming platform of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Disney+ Hotstar, has garnered 2.6 concurrent viewers during match no. 39 between Afghanistan and Australia on Tuesday, November 7.

This was the highest viewership obtained by the OTT medium for a non-India match, and the major reason behind this was Glenn Maxwell.

While chasing a tricky total of 292 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the five-time world champions were reduced to 91/7. Possibly a time when the viewership should have declined as a win for Afghanistan was surely on the cards. Nevertheless, the Australian showcased a once-in-a-lifetime inning as he single-handedly kept smacking the Afghan bowlers to score an undefeated and match-winning 201. The inning was possibly the greatest ODI knock of all time.

Maxwell was also hurt and appeared to be in tatters. He was gasping in pain and dropping to his knees between overs, but his spirit was unbroken. However, a hobbling Maxwell led his side through the finish line in a match that would go down in history.
