Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has launched a long-term sports development plan, committing 15% of its ZEE5 football-related subscription revenue to help improve India’s grassroots football ecosystem.

ZEE seeks to recreate its historical effect on Indian cricket by developing a systematic pipeline to assist India in qualifying for the Men’s and Women’s FIFA World Cups across several age categories by 2034.

The initiative proposes a direct-to-impact monetisation strategy, allowing ZEE5 subscribers to automatically support talent scouting and training programs as they consume sports content. ZEE intends to use FIFA’s worldwide talent identification frameworks to create scalable tournament formats for the local, district, state, and national levels.

Punit Goenka, Chief Executive Officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “India has a large, untapped reserve of football talent that harbors immense potential to compete at a global stage. As a responsible industry stakeholder and the home of football in India, it is our commitment to build a sustainable and conducive environment that nurtures the development of football in a holistic manner. Through this initiative, we are enabling our football viewers to invest in the dreams of countless young Indians who aspire to play the beautiful game at a global stage. Our efforts aim to blend passion with opportunity and translate engagement into impact. With this initiative, we envision India firmly on the global football map, led by our future generations.”

The smart move drew the Center’s notice and earned high commendation from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. In a post on X, Hon’ble Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Smt. Raksha Khadse, complimented ZEE on establishing an encouraging example for corporate India.

“This initiative aligns with transforming India into a global sporting powerhouse under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji,” Khadse tweeted, noting that corporate collaborations build onto foundations already laid by state programs like Khelo India. “The journey towards India’s Olympic dream requires collective efforts from the Government, sports bodies, corporates and communities. Initiatives like these will provide our young athletes with greater opportunities, better platforms and the confidence to compete at the highest global stage.”
