Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham tests COVID-19 positive after series against Sri Lanka

Earlier, Krunal Pandya tested positive, Chahal and Gowtham were in close contact with Krunal. The two were among the eight players who were isolating after Krunal tested positive.

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham have tested COVID-19 positive after the end of the white ball series against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Krunal Pandya tested positive, Chahal and Gowtham were in close contact with Krunal. The two were among the eight players who were isolating after Krunal tested positive. The eight names include; Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan, Krishnappa Gowtham.

Krunal was declared positive on 27th July in both Rapid Antigen and RT-PCR tests and was shifted to a different hotel in Colombo.

Chahal and Gowtham along with Krunal and other players who were in close contact will need to stay in Colombo while the other team members will leave for India today as per BCCI.

BCCI source told ANI, “Unfortunately, they have tested positive. They were close contacts of Krunal and were already away from the rest of the squad in the team hotel.”

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw who were selected for the test matches against England will now have to wait for a little bit longer before departing to England and will then join the Indian contingent in the upcoming days.

The Indian team won the ODI series against Sri Lanka 3-0 but lost the T20 series 2-1. In the last game, India was disappointing as the team made a total of 81 runs with a loss of eight wickets. It was a piece of cake for the Sri Lankan side who chased this target with ease and won the series. Wanindu Hasaranga was the best performing player of the T20 series and Suryakumar Yadav was declared as the best performing player of the ODI series
