The professional wrestling federation, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has named Manchester United‘s chief marketing officer, Catherine Newman as executive vice president and head of marketing.
Newman, who spent two years at the English Premier League club, will be in charge of the wrestling promotion’s marketing, branding, community relations, entertainment relations, creative services, and photography output.
Newman has been chief marketing officer at The Times and Sunday Times news outlets from 2016 to 2020 before deciding to join Manchester United. She also previously worked as an executive for the Financial Times for 11 years.
Stephanie McMahon, the WWE’s chief brand officer, recently announced that she will take a “leave of absence” from the company to spend time with loved ones. Stephanie is the daughter of the WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and the wife of WWE executive vice-president Paul Levesque, also known as ‘Triple H,’ who revealed last year that he was struggling with heart problems.
McMahon said, “I am taking a leave of absence from the majority of my responsibilities at WWE…I look forward to returning to the company that I love after taking this time to focus on my family.”
Meanwhile, WWE has confirmed plans to hold the first-ever massive stadium event in the United Kingdom after more than 30 years. The Clash at the Castle will take place on September 3 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
