The commercial and events arm of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), World Table Tennis (WTT) has launched WTT Event Management India Private Limited (WTT India), marking a significant strategic milestone for the sport in India.

The newly formed local entity is intended to help deliver top-tier international table tennis events in the country, improve pathways for Indian athletes, and increase fan and commercial engagement.

WTT India is an important step in WTT’s global mission to expand the sport’s reach and build strong local ecosystems. The new organisation will serve as a hub for organising high-performance events at both the elite and junior levels, as well as player development initiatives, carrying professional table tennis closer to Indian athletes and audiences. This move is consistent with the growing institutional support and grassroots momentum in Indian sports, especially as the current crop of Indian table tennis players gains international recognition.

Since its establishment, WTT has built itself as a vibrant global sports property, frequently presenting world-class tournaments on multiple continents. WTT, which broadcasts in over 180 countries, aims to transform table tennis into a year-round premium sports spectacle through premier venues, immersive production, and digital-first narrative.

Steve Dainton, WTT Chief Executive Officer, stated, “The passion is there. The infrastructure is coming. The player base is growing. With WTT India, we’re now fully invested in building a long-term ecosystem that’s good for India, and good for the game.”

WTT’s engagement in India began with the WTT Star Contender Goa in 2023, which was followed by a successful repeat in 2024. In 2025, the event expanded with WTT Star Contender Chennai Presented by IndianOil.

Vita Dani, a notable Indian sports businesswoman and Chairperson of Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), will join WTT India’s Board, bolstering its Indian presence. She said, “WTT India gives us the platform to channel international energy into a local movement. We have the talent, the ambition, and now the structure to dream bigger and deliver.”

Furthermore, Sharath Kamal Achanta, India’s most famous table tennis player, has been named WTT India’s official ambassador. He said, “The sport has come so far in India, and now, with WTT officially here, we have the chance to elevate it like never before.”

The inauguration of WTT India marks a watershed moment in the sport’s worldwide expansion, establishing India as a vital pillar in the future of modern table tennis, driven by strategic alliances and a focus on long-term growth.
