Werder Bremen extends kit deal with Umbro

Werder Bremen has reached an agreement with Umbro to extend the kit sponsorship deal until 2025. The Bundesliga club started working with Umbro in 2017.

Umbro cannot challenge the likes of Nike, Adidas, and Puma for getting expensive kit deals for some of the biggest clubs in Europe. However, the English sports kit manufacturer remains an attraction amongst the club a tier below.

Along with Werder Bremen, Umbro also sponsors Schalke in the Bundesliga. The most high-profile team under Umbro is West Ham United in Premier League. They used to manufacture kits for England National teams, but Nike has taken over that role with a lucrative deal with Football Association (FA).

A long-term commitment to Umbro will benefit Bremen during the uncertain financial situation due to the pandemic. Meanwhile, Umbro will also get a longer commitment with an established top tier club in Europe.

Football Clubs, kit manufacturers, and sponsors are looking to renegotiate deals at the moment as cashflow is essential for big organizations to sustain. Manchester United recently extended the lucrative deal with Chevrolet by six months to manage the cash flow. The clubs will regain some sort of normality when fans return to stadiums. For now, kit and other sponsorship deals are essential for clubs to retain financial stability.
