W-Sport announces its launch in sub-Saharan Africa

W-Sport has already expanded up to 16 countries broadcasting live matches to different parts of the world.

The broadcast channel W-Sport announced its launch in sub-Saharan Africa as part of its planned global rollout. 

The channel was launched in July 2021, W-Sport has already expanded up to 16 countries broadcasting live matches to different parts of the world. 

W-Sport has secured the streaming rights to England’s Women’s Super League, Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A, the Netherlands’ Vrouwen Eredivisie, Sweden’s Damallsvenskan and Australia’s W-League. Last month’s Women’s International Champions Cup was also telecasted live.

Sub-Saharan Africa was chosen by the officials as W-Sport considered the ease of clearing the rights in the region. The launch will be offering up to 300 football matches from the top women’s leagues. 

The distribution was secured through Azam TV which is a Tanzania-based pay-tv operator, through which the carriage was secured in Botswana, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
