The buzziest brands during the IPL 2021 have been established through a recent report by Wavemaker India. The love for cricket grows day by day and there is no stopping to that as the game is considered a religion in India, and parallel to that IPL, which was launched back in 2008 has emerged as one of the biggest T20 leagues in the world.
Now grabbing this growing popularity of IPL, different brands and companies tend to promote their products and services to the audiences, and we are familiar with that concept of “advertising”. Similarly, like every season this edition had different companies and brands promoted themselves during the IPL 2021, and to see who was the most to grasp the audience’s mind, Wavemaker “the real-time data intelligence solution” in association with Mesh launched a study upon IPL 2021, to see the buzziest brands this season.
The study was divided into two phases, “phase 1 and phase 2” just like this year IPL was staged. The first phase was played between April 9 and May 2, 2021, in which the IPL was played in India. The second phase took place between September 19 and October 16, 2021, phase 2 was played in the UAE. The report consists of data from multiple consumer touchpoints across the digital ecosystem, video analytics, and interaction data points retrieved from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
Firstly, as per the report published, the social mentions of the IPL 2021 increased by 33% from last year, with IPL 2021 winners Chennai Super Kings being in the highlight for that, which makes CSK the buzziest team of the 2021 season.
In the first phase it was the telecom brand, Vi, which was the buzziest brand, and the credit for that goes to their ‘Fan of the Match’ concept. While in the second phase it was Dream 11 who took over the title of the buzziest brand. Apart from this Vivo, Unacademy, and Dream11 were listed on the leader board in both phases.
Coming to viral ads, Cred’s unique concept ad featuring, cricket legend Rahul Dravid saying “Indranagar ka Gunda hoon mai” has topped the list. While in second place we have Myntra’s ‘This is how we roar’ ad featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Dj Bravo, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In third, we have Virat Kohli’s ad promoting MX taka. Apart from this, Cadbury Dairy Milk’s “Good Luck Girls” ad also made it to the list.
Lastly, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were the buzziest players during the IPL 2021. Dhoni took the third spot after Kohli and Rohit in that list.
