UEFA EURO 2024 Semi-Final 2 Netherlands vs England: Watkins winner secures final berth for England

Having advanced to the finals for the second consecutive year, the Three Lions will now take on Spain at the historic summit at the Olympiastadion Berlin.

In the second semi-final of the UEFA EURO 2024, England clinched a late 2-1 victory, courtesy of substitute Ollie Watkins, against the Netherlands in Dortmund.

Earlier in the first half, Xavi Simons put the Dutch up after seven minutes, but England skipper Harry Kane squared the semi-final from the penalty spot after being brought down by Denzel Dumfries. Soon after, Dumfries was again in the middle of things, stopping Phil Foden with a goal-line clearing. Notably, the first half was full of offensive prowess on both ends.

Things slowed down in the second half but began to pick up late as extra time seemed imminent. The Netherlands created more opportunities, but England made the most of their best chances late in the game.

Even at one point, England assumed they had the lead when Bukayo Saka scored, but offside was correctly flagged in the process. With the game headed into injury time, Watkins scored in the 90th minute with an excellent skill show and low finish after being set up by Cole Palmer.

Having advanced to the finals for the second consecutive year, the Three Lions will now take on Spain at the historic summit at the Olympiastadion Berlin. With this, England also became the sixth team to make it back-to-back EURO finals, joining the USSR (1960/1964), Germany (1972/1976, 1976/1980, 1992/1996), and Spain (2008/2012).
