Paris Saint-Germain are pursuing their first UEFA Champions League victory. They aim to become only the second French team to win the title, after Olympique de Marseille in 1993. Under Luis Enrique, PSG have had a spectacular season, winning the Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Trophée des Champions. Despite Inter Milan’s strong European history, which included three trophies, PSG enter the final as favourites. Enrique, who guided FC Barcelona to the Champions League title in 2015, feels his team is finally ready to make history.
Inter Milan are pursuing their fourth UEFA Champions League trophy, following victories in 1964, 1965, and 2010. Their path to the final included a thrilling semifinal comeback against Barcelona, punctuated by Francesco Acerbi’s late equaliser. Lautaro Martínez has scored in all knockout rounds this season, joining an elite club of players who have netted in the last 16, quarters, semis, and final. He’s also one goal away from being the first Inter player to reach ten goals in a single European season.
Head-to-Head:
PSG have a good historical record against Inter Milan, having won three of the five encounters between the two clubs, while Inter Milan have only won one. All five of these games were friendly.
However, PSG and Inter Milan have never played each other in the Champions League, making their first encounter on the largest stage, the final, even more exciting.
This is just the second UEFA Champions League final between an Italian and a French team, the first being Marseille’s 1-0 victory over AC Milan in 1993. Inter Milan make their eighth final appearance, having won three trophies (1964, 1965, and 2010) but losing to Manchester City in 2023. PSG are in their second final, having fallen 1-0 to FC Bayern Munich in 2020.
