The momentous 20th edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) is set to begin on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from the majestic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Since its start in 2004, the TMM has signalled a shift that has transformed India’s athletic landscape. Procam International, the organisers of Asia’s most renowned marathon, revealed that registration for the event has already begun today, i.e., August 14, 2024, on its official website.
Adrian Terron, Head – Brand & Marketing, Tata Sons, said, “The Tata Mumbai Marathon has become a foundational event for both, the city of Mumbai and the Indian sporting calendar as part of the broader movement of participative sport across the globe. We are excited to continue our support for this transformative initiative that embodies the spirit of perseverance and brings together an ever-growing community of citizens in the act of collectively celebrating the human spirit.”
Running is now the nation’s fastest-growing participatory sport, with 700 running events and over 700 run groups. Over the years, the event has also encouraged female participation, with women accounting for 30% of all participants. Furthermore, given its intrinsically inclusive nature, seniors and those with impairments were also encouraged to participate in the sport.
This World Athletics Gold Label Race allowed Indian athletes to compete against the best in the world and win medals for India. Aside from sports, the platform has had a positive impact on the social sector. Furthermore, it has resulted in the formation of a healthy ecosystem centred around the sport, which contributes to Maharashtra’s socioeconomic health and environmental sustainability.
Ujjwal Mathur – SVP & Country Head – India Business, TCS, said, “As we celebrate the 20th edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, we are inspired by its remarkable journey. What began as a sporting event has blossomed into a powerful symbol of Mumbai’s indomitable spirit. The marathon’s success is fuelled by the passion of its ever-growing community of runners and fitness enthusiasts. As long-standing supporters and pioneers in running events, TCS firmly believes in the transformative power of sports to promote health, unity, sustainability, and social impact. The marathon amplifies our brand’s commitment to wellness, which is deeply integrated into our corporate culture.
“In its 20th year, the Tata Mumbai Marathon will continue to inspire countless stories of personal triumph and forge bonds among runners, the ripple effect of which represents its true power and our collective potential to make a difference.”
Narayan TV, CMO, IDFC FIRST Bank, said, “IDFC FIRST Bank is thrilled to be the exclusive Associate Partner of the TATA Mumbai Marathon. The Tata Mumbai Marathon takes pride in being an all-inclusive race. This year, a restricted number of spaces have been allotted in the half marathon for Persons with Disability (PwD). Moreover, to attract more women to compete in the marathon and half marathon, a restricted number of running spots are reserved for them in both categories.
More specifically, registration for amateurs began today and will stay open until November 30, 2024. For the Half Marathon, registration is scheduled to begin on August 23 and close on September 13, 2024. Slots will be assigned based on the timing certificate submitted, with the fastest racer receiving first priority.
The Open 10K race category is entirely dedicated to charity, with a limited number of charity bibs available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration for events such as the Senior Citizens’ Run and Champions with Disabilities will open on August 27, and close on November 25. There is also a virtual run for those who want to run TMM remotely from anywhere in the globe. The virtual race categories are Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 Km, and Dream Run (5 Km). Registrations began today and will close on January 8, 2025.
