Olympic sprint champion Andre De Grasse has been named international event ambassador for the 21st edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, scheduled to take place in Mumbai on January 18, 2026.

The appointment further strengthens the marathon’s global standing and underscores its status as one of the world’s premier road races. A World Athletics Gold Label Race, the Tata Mumbai Marathon is widely recognised as Asia’s largest mass participation sporting event, drawing elite international athletes alongside tens of thousands of recreational runners each year.

As an international event ambassador, De Grasse will play a key role in promoting the marathon globally, engaging with runners and stakeholders, and supporting outreach initiatives in the lead-up to race day. His association is expected to enhance the event’s international visibility while reinforcing its message of inclusivity and participation across all age groups and ability levels.

Speaking on his appointment, Andre De Grasse said, “Running teaches discipline, belief, and resilience – values that stay with you long after the race is over. The Tata Mumbai Marathon embodies the power of sport to unite people, inspire courage, and encourage everyone to take the first step towards their own goals. I am honoured to be part of the 21st edition of this iconic event as the International Event Ambassador, standing alongside runners of all abilities who are driven by purpose, passion, and the joy of movement.”

Vivek Singh, of Procam International, Promoters of the event, added, “Andre De Grasse’s journey is a powerful reminder that greatness can emerge from the most unexpected beginnings. His achievements, humility, and commitment to giving back align seamlessly with the spirit of the Tata Mumbai Marathon. His presence at the 21st edition will further elevate the event’s global standing and inspire runners across India to push their limits and  realise their potential.”

De Grasse is among the most decorated athletes of his generation, having won seven Olympic medals during his career. His achievements include gold in the men’s 200m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and a relay gold as part of Canada’s 4x100m team at Paris 2024. Off the track, he is actively involved in community development through the Andre De Grasse Family Foundation, which focuses on empowering youth through sports and education.

The 21st Tata Mumbai Marathon will once again feature a full slate of race categories, including the elite marathon, half marathon, 10K, and mass participation runs, continuing its long-standing tradition of combining world-class competition with large-scale community engagement.
