Warner Bros. Discovery-owned Eurosport India has acquired the broadcast rights to World Table Tennis events, further expanding its multi-sport portfolio in India and strengthening its presence in Olympic disciplines.

The agreement comes into effect alongside the ongoing WTT Star Contender tournament in Chennai, giving the network immediate live inventory and a high-profile launch platform for its coverage.

World Table Tennis operates as the commercial and events arm of the International Table Tennis Federation and manages the sport’s structured global circuit. Its calendar is anchored by four tiers: Grand Smash, Champions, Star Contender and Contender events. The model is designed to centralise elite competition, elevate production standards and create a more commercially aligned global tour format.

The Star Contender category sits just below the top-tier events in the WTT hierarchy and offers significant ranking points and prize incentives. The Chennai edition has attracted a strong international and domestic field, underlining India’s growing importance within the global table tennis calendar.

Among the prominent names competing are South Korea’s Oh Junsung, Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov, India’s Manav Thakkar and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Japan’s Satsuki Odo, India’s Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee, along with Harmeet Desai and Romania’s Bernadette Szocs. The line-up reflects the tournament’s competitive depth and its appeal across established and emerging markets.

For Eurosport India, the WTT acquisition adds consistent, year-round international content at a time when broadcasters are seeking diversified sports programming beyond cricket. The deal strengthens the channel’s Olympic sports offering and aligns with the broader strategy of its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, which operates Eurosport’s established sports networks across Europe.

Warner Bros. Discovery has increasingly focused on leveraging global sports rights across territories, creating operational and commercial synergies between markets. Extending WTT coverage to Indian audiences fits within that cross-market integration strategy, particularly as interest in Olympic disciplines builds ahead of upcoming international cycles.

India’s role as a recurring WTT host further reinforces the country’s positioning within the sport’s global ecosystem. With elite international participation, domestic player representation and growing fan engagement, the Chennai Star Contender serves both as a competitive platform and a broadcast showcase.

With live coverage now underway, Eurosport India’s latest rights acquisition marks a significant step in expanding access to elite global table tennis for Indian viewers while deepening its footprint in the international sports rights landscape.
