T20 World Cup India vs Scotland: Rahul, Rohit lead India to an emphatic victory

India gathered two points with this dominating victory and stayed in contention for the knockout stages.

In the 37th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, India beat Scotland by eight wickets at the Dubai International Stadium. With this comprehensive victory, India gained two crucial points and kept their hopes alive for the semi-finals slot.

Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to field against Scotland. The hosts didn’t allow the Scottish men to settle at the crease with the bat. The Indian bowling unit kept picking wickets at regular intervals and bundled Scotland for a mere target of 85. The total on the scoreboard was an easy task but the Indians had to chase down the target within 7.1 overs to get past the NRR of Afghanistan and New Zealand. The Indian opening pair had a blast in the powerplay and hammered the Scottish bowlers in all parts of the ground. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul smashed 70 runs in five overs and set up the chase for India within the required overs to increase the run rate. A down the ground six by Suryakumar Yadav helped India to get over the finishing line in 6.3 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami pocketed three wickets each, Jasprit Bumrah struck two wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin had one wicket to his name. For Scotland, Mark Watt and Bradley Wheal had one scalp each.

The fixture between Afghanistan and New Zealand is bound to determine India’s fate in this edition of the World Cup. Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged Man of the Match for his economical spell of 3/15.
