In the 16th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Super 12, Group 2, India will be facing Pakistan on Sunday, October 24 at the Dubai International Stadium at 7:30 PM IST. The arch-rivals will be facing each other for the first time since the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2019.
India will be heading into this fixture on the back of two consecutive victories in the warm-up matches. The Men in Blue beat England and Australia in their allotted two warm-up games ahead of the commencement of the Super 12. The Indians have been playing the 20-over format for the past month because of the second phase of IPL 2021, due to which they are adjusted to the shortest format of the game. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami performing well in the warm-up matches is a positive side for the Indian camp ahead of the competition. The Indian side has been strengthened, following the inclusion of Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a mentor.
On the other hand, Pakistan also played two warm-up games, while they won and lost one game each. They beat West Indies in the first warm-up match by seven wickets but couldn’t defend the competitive target of 187 against South Africa in their following warm-up game. Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik have chipped in runs, which are good signs for Pakistan. The former ICC Men’s T20 World champions will be counting on their experienced contenders to perform well against their neighbouring country in a high octane fixture.
The two teams have faced each other in the T20 format on eight occasions, India has won six fixtures while Pakistan won once.
The last outing between the two teams in the shortest format took place in the T20 World Cup 2016, India beat Pakistan by six wickets.
