Sun TV Network Limited, a leading Indian media and entertainment powerhouse, has announced a landmark strategic acquisition set to significantly bolster its international presence in the thriving world of sports.
The company has finalised an agreement to acquire 100% of Northern Superchargers Limited, a prominent franchise in “The Hundred,” the United Kingdom’s innovative 100-ball cricket league. This pivotal acquisition is valued at £100.5 million (approximately ₹1,161 crore).
This bold expansion, greenlit by Sun TV Network’s Board of Directors, marks a crucial step in the company’s overarching global sports entertainment strategy. Upon closing, Northern Superchargers Limited will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun TV Network. The transaction is slated for completion on or before December 31, 2025, and will be entirely cash-funded through authorised banking channels under the Reserve Bank of India‘s (RBI) automatic route.
Northern Superchargers, representing the North East and Yorkshire regions and based in Leeds, is one of the eight cornerstone franchises in “The Hundred.” Promoted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), this fast-paced, accessible format has rapidly captivated audiences and attracted substantial commercial interest worldwide since its inception. The 2025 season of The Hundred is scheduled to run from August 5 to August 31, 2025.
The acquisition of Northern Superchargers strategically adds a third marquee cricket franchise to Sun TV Network’s already impressive portfolio. The company owns the perennially successful Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa’s SA20 League.
