Star Sports, Sony to have a busy broadcasting schedule

The VIVO IPL 2021 Phase 2 will be broadcasted by Star Sports.

Star Sports Network and Sony Pictures Networks, two of the most prominent sports broadcasting networks in India have a busy schedule ahead of themselves.

Star Sports Network

With a plethora of sports competitions set to be conducted this year, Star has a hectic schedule in the remainder of 2021 and beyond.

IPL 2021 phase 2:

The most popular tournament in India, the Indian Premier League, which was suspended indefinitely due to COVID-19 norms is finally going to resume this week. It will be broadcasted on Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar in India.

The second phase kicks off with the defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings on 19th September 2021.

ICC T20 World Cup 2021:

One of the most awaited cricket tournaments, the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, will commence in Oman on 17th October.

The event will be broadcasted in India on Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar.

South Africa tour of India:

A bilateral series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is will be played between India and South Africa later this year.

The rights of this series earlier belonged to Sony but now have been grabbed by Star Sports Network.

New Zealand tour of India 2021:

The black caps will visit India in November in what is to be said a tour of 2 Tests and 3 T20Is. The event will be broadcasted on Star Sports Network.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction:

The IPL Mega Auction, which is reportedly said to be hosted later this year or early next year will also be broadcasted on Star Sports Network.

The cash-rich league will be getting two new additional teams in the next edition. The mega auction will see some big superstars change teams.

As mentioned previously, the addition of two new IPL teams will make the tournament longer and exciting to watch.

The rights of the IPL 2022 belong to Star Sports Network and the summer will be very busy for them.

VIVO Pro Kabaddi League 2021:

Moving on to a different sport, the debut of the kabaddi league showed the popularity of the sport in India. Pro Kabaddi League became one of the most-watched sporting leagues in the nation.

The league, however, had to close down because of the pandemic, after a whole year, the league will finally begin in December. The tournament will be broadcasted on Star Sports Network.

Indian Super League 2021:

The premier football tournament in India is set to resume somewhere in November in Goa.

The clubs are ready to go ahead with full steam, a lot of transfers took place among the clubs to become stronger individually. The broadcasting rights of ISL belong to Star Sports Network.

The English Premier League:

The rights of the Premier League in India belongs to Star Sports Network and is the most viewed league according to the Network.

The league commenced a few weeks ago, the fans have been enjoying themselves. The league is also available on Disney+Hotstar.

Formula One:

The Formula One broadcasting rights in the Indian subcontinent belong to Star Sports Network.

After the release of the Netflix series F1 Drive to Survive, the Indian youth has been engaging with the new sport frequently.

Sony Pictures Sports Network

Moving to the jam-packed schedule of Sony Network, the broadcasting network telecasted the likes of Euro 2020, which became one of the most viewed tournaments in the country.

Sony also telecasted some popular cricket tournaments like the India tour of Sri Lanka and the India tour of England.

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 was also broadcasted on Sony and the viewership response was positive.

WWE Events:

The popular American wrestling show, WWE is telecasted in India on Sony and has a huge following.

With the likes of Extreme Rules, Survivor Series and TLC on the list, Sony might witness a spike in its viewership numbers.

UEFA Champions League:

The most popular football tournament in Europe which is viewed by a great number of fans in India as well is telecasted in India by Sony.

The UCL is just about to begin, the fans have already started the hype around the event. With the presence of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the UCL, which has two of the biggest football players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the tournament is going to be a blockbuster. 

International Cricket:

Some of the cricket competitions which won’t be featuring the Indian cricket team will still be broadcasted on Sony. The cricket fans will get to watch international cricket on Sony featuring teams like England, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Pakistan.
