Spurs to sign Emerson Royal from FC Barcelona

Emerson has played his last two seasons for Real Betis on loan.

To strengthen his defensive setup, Nuno Espírito Santo has gotten himself another brilliant defender from FC Barcelona, as Emerson Royal will make his move to Tottenham Hotspur for an agreed fee of €30m (£25.7).

Spurs arch-rivals Arsenal had also shown a keen interest in signing Royal, who joined Barcelona from Atlético Mineiro but Spurs have won the race to bring the defender to London.

Serge Aurier, the Ivory Coast defender is mostly going to move away from Spurs as he does not fit in Nuno’s plans. Japhet Tanganga played right-back in the victory against Watford on Sunday and hopefully Royal will be a challenge for him and Matt Doherty, who played under Nuno at Wolves.

Emerson who has played for the Brazil national team four times was playing for the Spanish side Real Betis for the past two years on a loan deal and helped them to qualify for the Europa League last season under the manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Tottenham has already finished a deal for Metz’s highly-rated 18-year-old midfielder Pape Sarr, with the Senegal international confident to spend this season on loan at his former club. But Spurs are yet to achieve success in negotiations with Wolves over Adama Traoré who is highly unlikely to leave the Wanderers.

Spurs have won all three league matches and are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment. They will be looking forward to maintaining their composure and sign an attacking prowess before the window shuts down.
