Temba Bavuma once again won the toss and asked India to bat first. Ishan Kishan‘s (27) fine form once again was on display as he gave India a decent start in the powerplay. While Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer got out cheaply, it looked like India will once again tumble while batting first. Even captain Rishabh Pant (17) couldn’t score enough. Hardik Pandya (47) and Dinesh Karthik (55) took charge of the inning and scored some heavy runs which helped India to post a respectable total. While Pandya smashed three fours and three sixes, on the other hand, Karthik hammered nine fours and two sixes. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter scored at the strike rate of 203.7 which helped India to get 169/6 in 20 overs.
In the chase, both the South African openers, Quinton de Kock (14) and captain Bavuma (8) looked solid to chase this total down but soon after facing 10 balls, Bavuma got retired hurt which changed the scenario of the match. No one from the middle order looked positive and confident to take the scorecard ahead. Rassie van der Dussen (20) scored a few bit of runs along with Marco Jansen (12) but that wasn’t going to be enough. SA only managed to reach 87/9 in 16.5 overs.
