South Africa tour of India 4th T20I: Karthik, Avesh star in India’s scintillating victory

The fifth and final T20I which will be played in Bengaluru will be the series decider.

In the South Africa (SA) tour of India 2022 fourth T20I, India defeated South Africa by 82 runs at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot.

Temba Bavuma once again won the toss and asked India to bat first. Ishan Kishan‘s (27) fine form once again was on display as he gave India a decent start in the powerplay. While Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer got out cheaply, it looked like India will once again tumble while batting first. Even captain Rishabh Pant (17) couldn’t score enough. Hardik Pandya (47) and Dinesh Karthik (55) took charge of the inning and scored some heavy runs which helped India to post a respectable total. While Pandya smashed three fours and three sixes, on the other hand, Karthik hammered nine fours and two sixes. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter scored at the strike rate of 203.7 which helped India to get 169/6 in 20 overs.

In the chase, both the South African openers, Quinton de Kock (14) and captain Bavuma (8) looked solid to chase this total down but soon after facing 10 balls, Bavuma got retired hurt which changed the scenario of the match. No one from the middle order looked positive and confident to take the scorecard ahead. Rassie van der Dussen (20) scored a few bit of runs along with Marco Jansen (12) but that wasn’t going to be enough. SA only managed to reach 87/9 in 16.5 overs.

Avesh Khan was the star bowler for India tonight as he scalped four wickets. The right-arm fast bowler did not even let Proteas think about the win even for a second while he was bowling. Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed two wickets as well and along with him Harshal Patel and Axar Patel also got one wicket each.

For SA, Lungi Ngidi scalped two wickets in the first innings. Along with him, Jansen, Dwaine Pretorius, Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj got one wicket each.

Following this victory, India levelled the series by 2-2.Dinesh Karthik was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant batting show. The fifth and final T20I which will be played in Bengaluru will be the series decider.
