The former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly has been named the Director of Cricket by the sports segment of JSW Group, JSW Sports.
The role encompasses the responsibility to helm all cricketing assets owned by JSW Sports, including Delhi Capitals (IPL and WPL) and SA20 League’s Pretoria Capitals.
The legend of Indian cricket is an experienced campaigner at JSW Sports as Ganguly worked as an advisor for Delhi Capitals in 2019. He was accompanied by coach Ricky Ponting and the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President also continued as Director of Cricket with the Capitals.
Speaking on the appointment, Jindal said, “Dada has always had a special place at JSW Sports. For us, he is family first and then the cricketing icon that he is. I’ve said this in the past and it stands true even today – he is one of the sharpest brains in cricket and we will always stand to benefit from his guidance and wisdom of the sport. I am both humbled and delighted that Dada will now head all things cricket for JSW Sports in his role as Director.”
Speaking on his new role, Ganguly said, “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the JSW Group and the Jindal family personally and professionally which made this an easy decision. JSW Sports has been doing visionary work across the board, and I am pleased to be able to lend my experience to all its cricketing projects.”
JSW Sports, established in 2012, is valued at USD 23 billion as of March 31, 2023. The conglomerate boosts presence across India, the USA, South America & Africa. Apart from the Capitals, the entity also owns prominent sports teams like Bengaluru FC and Haryana Steelers.
JSW Sports’ talent management roster consists of athletes like Axar Patel, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sakshi Malik, and Neeraj Chopra and supports the training of up to 40 Indian Olympic talents.
