Sony Sports Network to ‘EXTRAAA SERVE’ coverage for Australian Open 2025; secures numerous sponsorships

Sony will also show Australian Open 2025 matches in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

The sports broadcast entity, Sony Sports Network is ready to provide a thrilling experience as it acquires exclusive broadcast rights for the Australian Open (AO) 2025, solidifying its position as India’s premier tennis destination.

From January 12 to 26, 2025, fans around the country can experience the thrill and grandeur of this legendary Grand Slam, live from Melbourne’s historic courts.

Sony will provide extensive live coverage with EXTRAAA SERVE, which will include Sania Mirza, Somdev Devvarman, and Purav Raja. The broadcaster will also show Australian Open 2025 matches in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Notably, Sony Sports Network has signed on sponsors like Rolex, Kia Motors, Apple, Amul, and others for the event.

The Australian Open 2025 will begin on Sunday, January 12, giving tennis fans one extra day of action. This strategic change is intended to relieve the stress associated with late-night match endings for both players and spectators, while also improving the overall viewing experience by providing an additional day of live tennis activity.

The defending champions and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and 10-time winner in Australia, Novak Djokovic, will compete for the biggest prize. Fans can expect strong combat in the women’s draw too, with top seeds such as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and World No. 2 Iga Swiatek competing for dominance.

The Australian Open 2025 will have a significant number of Indian players, with four confirmed to compete in the main tournament. Rithvik Bollipalli, making his Grand Slam debut, will be joined by experienced players Rohan Bopanna, Yuki Bhambri, and Sriram Balaji in Melbourne. Rithvik, ranked 72nd in doubles, had a strong 2024 season, earning his first ATP Tour championship. Meanwhile, Bopanna will seek to defend his men’s doubles championship at the 2024 Australian Open. Furthermore, Sumit Nagal has gained straight entrance into his fifth GS.

Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer – Distribution and International Business and Head – Sports Business, Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “The Australian Open has established itself as the preferred Grand Slam among Indian tennis fans, differentiated by its entertainment quotient and the presence of top-seeded players. It is the most-watched Grand Slam on linear television over the last three years. We are committed to continuing this momentum and delivering premier tennis action to our Indian audiences. The response from advertisers has been exceptionally positive, with prestigious brands such as Rolex, Kia Motors, Apple and more joining us for this remarkable tournament.”

Sania Mirza, Two-time Australian Open winner & Brand Ambassador for Tennis on Sony Sports Network, said, “I have some of my fondest memories at Australian Open and I look forward to be back in the expert’s chair for Sony Sports Network’s EXTRAAA SERVE. I am also excited to watch the 2025 season, as Rohan Bopanna and Sumit Nagal will represent India. The competition is about to get more interesting as this season will bring lots of opportunities, whether it’s for Jannik Sinner, who looks to defend his title or its Novak Djokovic, who is looking to restore his past glory. Adding to the Melbourne heat will be the contest between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.”

Somdev Devvarman, Olympian & Former No 1 India Tennis Player, said, “Over the years, Sony Sports Network has become the home for Australian Open and it gives me immense pleasure to return to the commentary box and the studio chair for yet another exciting season. The 2025 edition of the tournament will set the tone for the upcoming Australian Open tournaments and other Grand Slams especially when it comes to the next legend in tennis.”
