Sony Pictures Networks obtains exclusive media rights for Commonwealth Games 2022

The event can also be enjoyed on the OTT platform, SonyLIV.

The broadcasting giant, Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) has obtained exclusive television and digital rights to the upcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. The multi-sporting event will take place in Birmingham from July 28 till August 8. 

Following this development, along with India, Sony will get the opportunity to cover the CWG 2022 in the subcontinent, which includes Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, and the Maldives. Fans and followers of the event can also catch the live-action on the broadcasting company’s OTT platform, SonyLIV

David Leather, CEO, Commonwealth Games Federation Partnerships, further said, “We are delighted that Sony Pictures Networks India will exclusively broadcast the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games across the country. India’s top athletes will be competing at Birmingham 2022, including the likes of Neeraj Chopra and Harmanpreet Kaur, so it is fantastic that Sony will be taking world class sport into the homes of millions of people across the country.

“This partnership is particularly important because India is the largest and most populous country in the Commonwealth and a real leader across the Commonwealth Sport Movement. This deal represents a huge vote of confidence in Birmingham 2022 and the future direction of the Commonwealth Sport Movement, so we are pleased to be working together on this exciting venture.”

Sony has been fully stacked with some quality sports action for the upcoming few months. Recently, the entity has acquired media rights to World Athletics Championships 2022 and the 19th Asian Games

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) named a 322-member Indian contingent for the event.
