With only a few days left for the Olympics, Sony is set to make another wave after the success and massive viewership it saw during the Euros across June. The India vs Sri Lanka series and the Olympics are the main events on Sony’s Calendar for July and the beginning of August, right before the European Football season.
On an advertising front, Sony Sports have got massive response from sponsors and have signed more than 8 sponsors for the Olympics broadcast, according to sources.
The interest in the Olympics is very high this year, and a lot of brands are supporting the event owing to higher participation and hopes from the Indian contingent. Brands such as Hero, Amul, RBI, Byjus, Coca Cola, MPL, Maruti have reportedly signed up as the broadcast sponsors of the live telecast of the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the Tokyo Olympics will also be broadcasted across the Sony network from the 23rd of July 4:30 am to 8 pm. The closing ceremony will also be broadcasted on the 8th of August. The network is also promoting the event using different campaigns, with the likes of Kiren Rijju and many other to raise awareness about the Tokyo-bound Indian athletes.
The IOA has also received a lot of sponsorship interest this year as companies continue to support the Olympic-bound athletes. MPL Sports foundation becoming the principal sponsor while Edelweiss, Nippon Paint, INOX Group joining as national sponsors and Amul, Raymond and JSW Group joining as the onboard partners.
Though Sony will have to tackle the overlapping issue of two T20I’s of India vs Sri Lanka with the final hour of the Olympic coverage on July 23 and July 25. The India Sri Lanka series will begin on the 13th of July, with 3 One Day Internationals and 3 T20s finishing on the 25th of July. The series has also garnered a massive response on Sony’s calendar year with over 15 sponsors.
Meanwhile, Olympic will also clash with the England vs India Test series, which will be broadcasted by Star Sports from August 4, which has also seen a ton of advertising interest.
