Sony acquires DFB-Pokal media rights

The collaboration commences tonight with the second round.

Sony Pictures Networks, the Indian media broadcasting baron, has bagged exclusive rights to the German knockout clubs competition, DFB-Pokal, in the Indian subcontinent for the 2022/23 season.

The collaboration commences tonight i.e. Tuesday, October 18 with the second round. This association includes India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka.

Fans of the competition can also enjoy the event on Sony’s OTT platform SonyLIV. In the previous year, there wasn’t any broadcast for DFB-Pokal, so the matches were available for free on the YouTube channel of the German Football Association (DFB).

This recently-conjured partnership also consists of the annual DFL-Supercup match played between the winners of the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. The rights to the German top-flight football competition, Bundesliga, in the Indian subcontinent are also owned by Sony.

The first fixture of round two will be between Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgarter Kickers at 9:30 PM IST.

Apart from this brand new deal, Sony also acquired rights to the 2022 Ballon d’Or, Tennis Premier League, Commonwealth Games 2022, Roland Garros, and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
