The UK-based pay-TV broadcaster, Sky Sports has announced that it will continue to air the Big Bash League (BBL), having extended its partnership for another four years.
Sky, the BBL’s inaugural broadcaster, will telecast the league through December 2025 and January 2026, giving fans ongoing access to one of cricket’s most intriguing T20 contests. The 2024-25 season marked a watershed moment for the league, being the most-watched BBL season under current broadcast rights. With an excellent average attendance of 22,076 per match, the best since 2017-18, the BBL also had the second-highest average attendance among all Australian sports leagues.
On the pitch, the action was not disappointing. Mitchell Owen struck a magnificent 39-ball century to propel Hobart Hurricanes to their maiden BBL title. In the women’s tournament, West Indies star Hayley Matthews led Melbourne Renegades to a stunning victory against Brisbane Heat in the final.
Bryan Henderson MBE, Sky Sports Director of Cricket and NFL, said, “We’re really excited that the Big Bash Leagues will remain a key part of our comprehensive cricket offering on Sky Sports, bringing world-class T20 action to our audiences during the winter. This four-year extension means we can commit to showcasing one of the most entertaining tournaments in the global cricket calendar, at a time when both the men’s and women’s competitions are going from strength to strength.”
Cricket Australia EGM Legal and Business Affairs, Kate Ingber, commented, “This latest agreement with Sky Sports helps us ensure the WBBL and BBL will continue to grow its global audience, entrenching its long-held reputation as one of the world’s premier T20 tournaments.”
