The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motorsport, has entered into a landmark multi-year partnership with Siemens, naming the technology company as its official digital twin sponsor.

The collaboration puts Siemens’ advanced software at the heart of the FIA’s push for sustainability, safety, and innovation across its championships.

The agreement is a cornerstone of the FIA’s new global partnership programme and marks a significant expansion of the federation’s use of the Siemens Xcelerator software portfolio. By embracing a “virtual-first” approach, the FIA intends to transform the way technical regulations and car designs are developed, a change that supports its long-term objective of achieving net zero by 2030.

Through the integration of Siemens’ digital twin technology, the FIA will be able to replicate, test, and refine vehicle concepts entirely in virtual environments. This shift reduces the reliance on resource-heavy wind tunnel testing and physical prototypes, cutting environmental impact while improving efficiency. It also enables engineers to conduct highly precise simulations of vehicle performance and structural integrity under varied conditions, allowing the federation to refine its regulations and ensure that racing remains both fair and safe.

Commenting on the occasion, Craig Edmondson, Chief Commercial Officer, FIA, said, “We’re proud to partner with global technology leaders like Siemens to shape the future of motor sport. This collaboration shows the strength of our wider partner network, where world-class brands are helping us deliver progress across performance, safety, and sustainability.”

Jason Somerville, head of aerodynamics, FIA, added, “Siemens gives us the precision tools to design and test complex aerodynamic concepts virtually, reducing environmental impact while improving performance and safety. This technology is key to ensuring that racing remains closer, fairer, and more competitive — all while supporting our ambition to reach net zero by 2030.”

Nand Kochhar, Vice President, Automotive and Transportation, Siemens Digital Industries Software, continued, “We are proud to deepen our collaboration with the FIA as their Official Digital Twin Sponsor, supporting its mission to drive innovation, safety, and sustainability. “Siemens Xcelerator is enabling the FIA and its partners to design, simulate, and optimize with greater precision. This collaboration exemplifies how digital transformation can accelerate progress toward a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for mobility.”

The benefits extend beyond sustainability and safety. The ability to rapidly test and iterate within a digital ecosystem is expected to accelerate innovation across single-seater categories, from Formula 1 to Formula 4. Since 2022, the FIA has already produced more than 14,000 digital parts for analysis, backed by over 10,000 computational fluid dynamics simulations conducted with Siemens’ tools. Going forward, the federation will expand its use of the Xcelerator portfolio, including NX for design, Teamcenter X for product lifecycle management, and the Simcenter suite for advanced modeling and simulation.

The announcement builds on years of successful collaboration between the FIA and Siemens and underscores both organizations’ belief in the role of cutting-edge technology to tackle the biggest challenges in motorsport and beyond.
