Shakib Al Hasan gets permission to miss Sri Lanka Test series for IPL 2021

Shakib Al Hasan was one of the big picks during IPL 2021 auction on Thursday as Kolkata Knight Riders snapped him for Rs 3.2 crores. The spin bowling all-rounder will be allowed to skip Test series against Sri Lanka to play the entire season of the IPL 2021.

BCB’s cricket operations head Akram Khan told Espncricinfo that Shakib Al Hasan wants to play shorter format of the cricket right now. Khan said, “Shakib wants to play T20s at the moment. He doesn’t want to play Tests. He has asked for a leave for the IPL. We also don’t want to force someone who doesn’t want to play Tests, which is why the board has decided to grant him the leave.”

Bangladesh is likely to play to a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in April, which comes under the World Test Championship. The dates for the series are yet to be confirmed. Since dates for series will definitely clash with IPL, BCB has decided to grant the wish of experienced all-rounder. 

Earlier this month, Shakib Al Hasan was granted  paternity leave to skip the upcoming tour of New Zealand that is scheduled for the end of March. Meanwhile, NZC has granted NOCs to the players for participating in the entire season of the T20 extravaganza. While the English players could also be forced to miss the two-Test series against the Kiwis

After missing IPL last year, Shakib Al Hasan will be once again represent KKR in the tournament. He was part of the squad that won the tournament in 2012 and 2013. The prolific all-rounder played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last few seasons.
