SFC Global 10K, Navi Mumbai, is all set for its inaugural edition, which will take place on February 16, 2025, and will welcome India’s fastest men and women, with significant incentives for any records broken.
The event will feature the most outstanding athlete of 2024, Kenyan Beatrice Chebet. In the Paris 2024 Olympics, Chebet, established the 10,000m World Record and took home gold in both the 5,000m and the 10,000m, becoming just the third woman in history to do so.
According to the event promoters, the inaugural edition will include about 30 of the world’s fastest men and women road runners from 13 nations.
CMD of SFC Environmental Technologies, the event’s title sponsor and promoter, Sandeep Asolkar, announced Chebet’s entry in the SFC Global 10K, Navi Mumbai. He said, “SFC is proud to announce the launch of the SFC Global 10K, Navi Mumbai as a prestigious annual event of international standing in Navi Mumbai. The SFC Global 10K, Navi Mumbai, is being conducted in collaboration with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, which will provide all logistical assistance in order to put on a successful, world-class event.
The event will also be a bonanza for amateur runners wanting to set personal bests while also giving them the opportunity to ascend the podium and earn substantial prize money. The competition will be divided into 12 age groups for men and women, with prizes for the first five finishers in each category. The registration charge for 10K will be INR 1200, plus taxes and a convenience fee. Online registration will commence on November 11 and may be completed at the event website, www.sfcglobal10k.com.
Road races throughout the world have a strong connection to charity, and the SFC Global 10K, Navi Mumbai, will also serve as a forum for NGOs and philanthropic organisations to generate donations for their causes. India Cares Foundation will serve as a cause-neutral philanthropy gateway, coordinating and conducting all philanthropic activities for the event.
To know more on this event, SportsMint Media got an opportunity to interact with Mr Sandeep Parab – Director, SFC.
In a brief chat, Mr. Parab talked about why the run is conducted in Navi Mumbai, the objective of the event and ROI.
“We built our company in Navi Mumbai, and my running began here, so I felt compelled to give back to Navi Mumbai and the running community, and this is how I did it. The whole objective of having a 10K event is to get it exposed internationally and to motivate people.
“We are not looking at the ROI right now because if we do, we will fail. We want ROI, but not in the form of money. We will consider ourselves successful if we can motivate young people to participate in this movement.”
