SC East Bengal has announced that Spanish coach Manuel Diaz will take over the head coach position from Robbie Fowler.
The mutual decision of parting ways came to a couple of weeks after the investor discussed enduring its support to East Bengal.
Manuel Diaz, the Spanish coach has an incredible 20 years’ coaching experience and quite a remarkable time in Real Madrid Castilla as well.
According to the Kolkata-based club, Manuel will bring along with him a great sense of leadership and a winning mentality which SC East Bengal needs.
The 53-year-old had his latest share of coaching experience when he was with Real Madrid Castilla in the 2018-19 season.
“In Madrid, we say ‘winning is in our DNA’. We love the pressure and expectation that comes with coaching a big club,” said Manuel.
“Time is short and there is a long and difficult road ahead, but we will do our best to deliver good performances for all SC East Bengal fans,” he continued.
SC East Bengal didn’t have a decent performance under Robbie Fowler as the club won just three games and finished ninth in their ISL debut.
“SC East Bengal can confirm that the club has agreed with Robbie Fowler to a mutual termination of the head coach’s contract. We wish Robbie all the best with his future endeavors and look forward to his continued association with Shree Cement Limited,” the club tweeted.
Manuel is the third Spanish coach, SC East Bengal has appointed in the history of their club. The previous Spanish managers include Alejandro Menendez and Mario Rivera.
The Shree Cement-led club will be looking forward to having a better season this year with some new signings and a new head coach.
