The sports streaming giant, DAZN, has announced a significant sublicensing agreement with Sat.1.

The German free-to-air broadcaster has ensured that matches featuring German clubs in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be available to a wide national audience.

The partnership sees Sat.1 broadcast key games involving Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, both of whom have qualified for the revamped global tournament.

Under the terms of the deal, Sat.1 has secured the rights to air all matches featuring the participating German teams. With both Bundesliga powerhouses confirmed to compete in the United States, German football fans will have the opportunity to watch their teams’ campaigns live on Sat.1’s linear television channel.

In addition to the traditional television broadcast, the matches licensed to Sat.1 will also be accessible via live streaming on the digital platform Joyn, further enhancing availability for viewers across Germany.

While this agreement brings select matches to free-to-air television, DAZN, the exclusive global rights holder for the tournament, will provide comprehensive coverage of the entire event. All 63 matches of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, including those also shown on Sat.1, will be streamed live and free of charge on the DAZN platform in Germany.

This collaboration is a strategic move by DAZN as it prepares for the inaugural edition of the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025. By entering into sublicensing partnerships with established free-to-air broadcasters like Sat.1, DAZN aims to maximise the tournament’s visibility and reach in crucial international markets. This approach is also designed to attract new users and introduce a broader demographic to the DAZN streaming service.

The agreement with Sat.1 aligns with DAZN’s global broadcast strategy for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which involves forging similar partnerships in various territories. Previously announced sublicensing deals include collaborations with Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, TelevisaUnivision and EverPass Media in the United States, Mediaset in Italy, Globo in Brazil, Okko in Russia, MIGU in China PR, and DIRECTV in Latin America. These partnerships collectively underscore DAZN’s commitment to leveraging free-to-air exposure to complement its extensive global streaming coverage of this prestigious club football competition.

The expanded FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will feature 32 top clubs from confederations worldwide, competing in a new format that promises a compelling summer of football. The confirmed participation of prominent German clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund makes the German market a key focus for broadcasting the tournament, and the partnership with Sat.1 ensures these highly anticipated matches will be readily available to fans nationwide.
