Chelsea officially announced the signing of the Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku on Thursday. The former Everton and Manchester United player is back at Stamford Bridge seven years after he left the club. The Blues released a video on Twitter titled ‘Welcome home Romelu Lukaku’.
After weeks of speculation, Romelu Lukaku has finally completed his transfer to Chelsea. In a record transfer fee, Lukaku joins Chelsea for a staggering £97.5 million. With this transfer, Chelsea shatters its own highest transfer that was set earlier by Kai Havertz.
Romelu Lukaku was instrumental in Inter Milan’s success last season and was in good touch during the Euros as well. Lukaku scored 113 goals during his time in the Premier League, most notably for Manchester United and Everton. He is delighted to be back at the club he loves.
“I’m happy and blessed to be back at this wonderful club,” said Lukaku, who has signed a five-year contract. “It’s been a long journey for me: I came here as a kid who had a lot to learn, now I’m coming back with a lot of experience and more mature.
The relationship I have with this club means so much to me, as you know. I have supported Chelsea as a kid and now to be back and try to help them win more titles is an amazing feeling.“
“Romelu Lukaku is quite simply one of the world’s best strikers and goalscorers. We are absolutely delighted to be bringing him back to the club he loves, and are excited to be adding his talent to our Champions League-winning squad,” said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
