Real Madrid become first football club to register a revenue of €1bn

As per Deloitte Football Money League's latest report, Real Madrid generated €1.046bn (£883m) in the 2023-24 edition.

The LALIGA giants, Real Madrid have emerged as the first-ever football club to cross €1bn (£844m) in revenue in a single edition.

The Spanish champions have edged their European contemporaries on the financial pitch with this development. As per Deloitte Football Money League’s latest report, Real Madrid generated €1.046bn (£883m) in the 2023-24 edition courtesy of the match-day revenue doubling to €248m after the renovations to the Bernabéu and a hike of 19% in the commercial revenue.

Complementing their off-pitch performance, Los Blancos dominated the game on the field as they won LALIGA, UEFA Champions League (UCL) and the Spanish Super Cup.

In the ranking of amassing the highest revenue, Real Madrid are followed by Manchester City €838m (£708m), Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) €806m (£681m), and Manchester United €771m (£651m).

Theo Ajadi, Assistant director in the Deloitte Sports Business Group, said, “One billion euros in revenues is a landmark in club football. The redevelopment of Madrid’s stadium has been the catalyst for the club’s growth. They’ve licensed some seating, which has provided a significant uplift in revenue, and also increased merchandising and brought in new sleeve sponsorship. That, along with strong on-pitch performance, has led to Madrid’s strong financial performance.”

The report stated that the top 20 revenue-generating clubs registered a record €11.2bn (£9.46bn) in the previous season, a total of 6% increase in cumulative revenues from the 2022-23 edition.
