Ravindra Jadeja completed 2000 runs in Test cricket on Friday which saw him become the fifth-fastest player to achieve this milestone along with 200 wickets.

Jadeja was 15 runs short of the 2000-run mark when he came out to bat against England after Rishabh Pant’s dismissal on Day 3 of the first Test match out of the five-match Test series.

India dismissed England in the first innings for a mere score of 183, after which India scored a total of 278 runs. Vital contributions from KL Rahul (84) and Ravindra Jadeja (56) helped India acquire a lead of 95 after the first innings.

Jadeja’s 86-ball stand helped him complete 2000 runs in Test cricket and became the third-fastest Indian and overall the fifth-fastest player to achieve the double in international cricket.

The record puts him alongside the likes of Kapil Dev, Sir Ian Botham, Imran Khan, and Ravichandran Ashwin to have scored 2000 runs and taken 200+ wickets in Test cricket.

Virat Kohli’s side has been looking solid in the first Test and has been applying continuous pressure on the England team with an excellent display in both the departments and keeping a stronghold in the ongoing Test of the five-match series.

The first Test also marked the beginning of the second cycle of the World Test Championship cycle with its final scheduled in 2023.

Before Day 3 was called off early due to rain, the English openers put 25 on the board without losing a single wicket.
