Rajasthan Royals retain skipper Sanju Samson ahead of IPL mega auction

The 27-year-old Kerala batsman will once again don the captaincy role.

Rajasthan Royals have decided to retain their captain Sanju Samson ahead of the Indian Premier League auction that is going to take place possibly at the end of the year or early in January. The wicketkeeper-batter had an outstanding IPL 2021. He scored 484 runs in 14 matches at an average of 40.33. For someone who likes to play straight batted shots, this is humongous. Striking at 136.72, that’s what the class the young batsman brings to the table.

The 27-year-old Kerala batsman will once again don the captaincy role after approving a Rs 14 crore per season contract. There are reports that Rajasthan Royals wants to retain the English trio of Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Liam Livingstone with an uncapped opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Franchises have a deadline till November 30th to decide upon this.

The two new franchises – Ahmedabad and Lucknow, will then get a chance to pick three players before the auction once the retentions are over. Players like David Warner and Ben Stokes are likely to be the ones to get picked.

Back in 2018, Sanju Samson was picked by RR for eight crores. He later became the captain of the side after the franchise decided to discharge Steve Smith from the position.

If reports were to be believed, Sanju Samson was looking to move to Chennai Super Kings after the Royals couldn’t make it to the playoffs of this season. However, this move failed and once again Sanju Samson will now lead Rajasthan Royals in the IPL season 15.
