Raheem Sterling joins Chelsea on five-year contract

Sterling had a medical assessment with Chelsea on Sunday.

The attacking midfielder and winger, Raheem Sterling has signed a contract with the Premier League (PL) team, Chelsea. The official announcement of the transfer was done by the Blues through their official social media handles and website.

Sterling had a medical assessment with Chelsea on Sunday, July 10 after reaching a mutual agreement on a five-year deal with an additional 12-month alternative choice.

The 27-year-old football star made his departure from Manchester City official when he penned down a long farewell message and shared it through his official social media handles.

Sterling has represented both the England national team and Manchester City as a winger and offensive midfielder.

Sterling, who was born in Jamaica, went to London when he was five years old. Prior to joining Liverpool in 2010, he started his career with Queens Park Rangers. In 2014, he received the Golden Boy accolade.

In 320 matches for Liverpool and City combined, Sterling has personally registered 165 goals, while also demonstrating tactical versatility and expertise.

On signing an association with Chelsea, Sterling said, “First and foremost, it’s a pleasure to be here. I’ve obviously achieved a lot in my career so far, but there is still so much more to achieve and I’m really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt, under Thomas’s management.

“London is my home and where it all started for me, and it’s amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in, week out at Stamford Bridge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon.

“I do want to take the opportunity to thank Todd, Behdad, the ownership group, Thomas, and all involved in the process of getting me here. I can’t wait to get going now and continue to do my talking on the pitch.”
